Michel Dufour, a trained engineer, worked at an enterprise that manufactured parts for locomotives in the sea city of La Rochelle.
The early 80s turned out to be a difficult period in the company's history, but partnerships with clothing manufacturer Lacoste and design by Herman Frers helped restore production.
The company began to conquer the high-end market segment with the Dufour Lacoste 42 model, and continued with the Prestige line.
