Fountaine Pajot, a leading global manufacturer of cruise catamarans, was founded in La Rochelle (France).

Since 1980, Fountaine Pajot has been manufacturing prototype cruising yachts under the IOR guidelines. Halftones built by the company become world champions and win the Figaro single races. The company is gaining a good reputation in the world of sailing.

The first Fountaine Pajot multihull vessel, the Royale 18 meter racing trimaran, appears in 1981.

The experience is successful and the shipyard begins to build ships for ocean racing.

Large catamarans "Charente Maritime 1 and 2", partially built at the shipyard, win one victory after another, the company begins to evaluate the importance of yachts of this type for sailing cruises.

Since 1983, the best teams of designers from various industries, together with their own design bureau consisting of ten people, created 23 models of sailing catamarans.
