Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. is one of the world's largest manufacturers of two-stroke and four-stroke marine engines.
The HiMSEN range was developed by HHI-EMD, taking into account the experience and know-how of the production of engines under license agreements with well-known foreign manufacturers for more than twenty years.
In March 2001, two HiMSEN engine models were released for the first time: H21 / 32 (800 ~ 1800 kW) and H25 / 33 (1500 ~ 2700 kW), which have been in development since 1993.
In 2002, these models received certificates from 7 major classification societies, which marked the beginning of commercial production of engines.
The main technical advantage of HiMSEN engines for small and medium vessels is the small number of engine components, as well as its unique design without piping.
These technical features allow for low vibration and noise levels, low levels of SFOC and nitrogen dioxide (NOx) concentration, which undoubtedly increases the competitiveness of HiMSEN engines.
In addition to small and medium-sized vessels, HiMSEN engines have been successfully operating since 2007 on tugs serving offshore drilling platforms.
Based on the production potential of HiMSEN engines and the development in 2007 of the H32 / 40P (5000 kW) range, already in 2008 HHI signed a contract to supply 70 sets of 9-cylinder HiMSEN H32 / 40P engines for 15,000 DWT ships to China.
In 2009, 10 sets of H32 / 40P were produced and delivered to various shipyards. The first engine from the H32 / 40P range was installed on a Chinese-built vessel.
Sea trials were carried out on October 30, 2009, and at the moment the vessel is ready for delivery. This model was chosen for 15,000 dwt, based on its characteristic advantages: high maneuverability, compactness, the ability to operate in port or at sea, which smoothed out the disadvantages of a two-stroke engine.
